Protecting your trees and shrubs during a drought

KEYSTONE ALERT

We’re in a drought! We’ve had very little rain and the rest of October appears to be dry.

For your trees and shrubs that is bad news. Most of your landscape plantings would be producing new roots this month and that’s not happening. There’s no silver bullet to cure this problem except a substantial amount of rain. You can help by watering.

In most cases, watering all of your trees and shrubs is not practical; however, consider doing any plantings that have been installed in the last 3 years. Those plants, plus broadleaf evergreen shrubs (Rhododendrons, Cherry Laurel, Boxwood, etc.) of any age are particularly susceptible to drought damage. We have treatments – an anti-desiccant and a special fertilizer – that will help trees and shrubs in a weakened condition. Contact your Keystone Arborist, listed below, for more details. We are your landscape preservationists!
